80/20
This evening I went to the movies with my sister, Zarah. It was good for her. To distract her attention from her ex boyfriend. As all of you know, he recently broke up with her. He did. For resons I can only speculate about.
Zarah has been very sad since he broke the news. Probably as sad as she had never been because of a broken relationship. Understandably. Every now and then she talked about marrying him one day. With kids. And a lovely home.
This afternoon they had a long conversation about their future. Or better, their separate futures. He repordetly added that he was not sure yet. Not sure whether he truly wanted to leave her.
Zarah told me that he amounted the odds to be 80/20. Thus, the probability he would definitively leave her is 80%.
His statement made me think about emotions again: Is it possible to express feelings as mathematical values or probabilities? If so, is it wise to do so?

Emotions can sometimes be quantified in numbers...when one doesn't have the gutts to express freely. I'm sorry to hear about your sister, I feel very connected with her feelings since I'm living a similar situation myself.

better get along with her life and let him alone with his uncertainty, you don't love someone 80%/20% it's either love or it isn't and it's about commitment, he just probably isn't ready for such a mature act.

I am 100% certain she should tell him where to go. He wants to have his cake and eat it. He could play this game of dangling himslef before her for years, all to meet his own needs, no concern for hers.
My father used to assign a percentage success for each Hungarian meal I cooked for him as a teenager.
At the time, I disliked that intensely and disagreed with it violently. Cooking is more or less subjective, isn't it?
All the more so, human emotions.

I think it is absolutely cold and callous of him to say there was an 80% chance of him leaving her. That's beyond mean!

Ok. If it was real love, there wouldn't be numbers. In other words, kick that motherf*cker out, because he's not in his right mind. However... I think you can use numbers to decide the probability of staying with someone or not if it's not a fully developed relationship. I actually wrote a paper about this. Silly... I know. But seriously, I feel there is an equation to a relationship. There is a rate at which it develops into that, given certain factors. I will give you an example, I love my ex-bf. And I would love to be with him (however, he's the one who broke up with me). He says that he's planning to get together with me one day when he is ready. I do not quantify my emotions for him, but in terms of the actual outcome of "us," I think that there are probability scenarios. The probability of me marrying him in the future is 65%. This is because... I have taken into account our future goals/aspirations/potential destinations (countries)/etc. I have also taken into account what I know about him, and whether he will change enough and in time for me to get together with him, as well as what I might feel about it then, in the future, knowing how I am with my emotions.
But... in terms of love, I do not quantify it, and I don't think that you ever could. Maybe you can describe what type of love, since, granted, love comes in many forms.
