Army: In or Out? #2

Monday, September 17

I was a tad nervous when I arrived at the orthopedist this afternoon.

He first explained to me how the Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI) technology works. Interestingly, this tomography has produced numerous images of my left knee at different layers. This allows the physicians to compare the structure and texture of my knee to a healthy one. And; guess what? It looks completely like a healthy knee.

So the answer to the title question previously posed definitely is: in. In the grasp of the Swiss armed forces, I am a man capable to join, and they will train me to be a true and real soldier. Who would've thought.

  1. I wish I joined the Marines when I finished high school. That was some time ago. Now that I have passed the age limit to join, I am not so sure I would join now. At the time I could have joined, I know it would have helped me financially, with education and a career.

  3. Bad luck, Simon. Many years ago I had a husband who took a post-graduate degree in War Studies (on the basis that a doctor studies sickness so a pacifist should study war) and one of his fellow-students was a Swiss guy named Andre who was trying to put off the inevitable by stretching out his studies for as long as possible.

They had a great cultural exchange. John taught Andre "You piss me off" and Andre taught John "Tu m'enmerdes"!

  4. So you're Swiss, that explains the French post.

My son wants to join the army, he's nearly 17 so he must finish his studies first. In France boys and girls do one day of military service. My daughter went 2 years ago and was 'bored'.

At least in the Swiss army you won't be sent off to fight with the US and UK in war zones.

  5. If you country asks it of everyone, then you should go. The Swiss are famous for not having to defend their freedom because they stand ready at any time to do so.
